Been a while since I've had a rant. We just bought a swing set for the kids - part of the commitment to an outdoor lifestyle. In the enlightened times that we live in that means that we have to line the area under the swing set, plus the surrounding five acres, in mulch so deep that when you swing you'll get bark splinters in your arse. Still, I'll take that over head injuries (just about). So I contact four local companies, shooting them a quick email asking for a price on twelve cubic yards of bark mulch - around $600 worth, really....
That was three days ago. One company got back to me this morning. ONE. And they didn't have what I wanted. Am I led to believe that in these economic times the landscape companies are so busy with work that a $600 order is irrelevant to them? Don't believe it. This is 2009 - get with the program. Either have your prices up on the web or get back to customers promptly. I have no interest in a 5 minute telephone conversation with each company. I know what I want, it's not that difficult.
